Meet Georgina from Lordy Dordie

Meet Georgina from Lordy Dordie

For our latest collection ‘Wide Blue Yonder’ our designer Dee, collaborated with local artist Georgie from Lordy Dordie.

Georgie is a local Brisbane artist who, like us at Maiocchi, loves to work with bright colours and fun prints.

Georgie's colourful works of art and our Maiocchi frocks are a match made in heaven and work beautifully together. We couldn't be happier with the end result.

We thought you might like to get to know a little about the gorgeous lady behind this fabulous Australian floral filled print….

Tell us a little bit about yourself

Hi, I’m Georgie Forbes also known as Lordy Dordie. I’m a Brisbane-based artist and surface pattern designer with over 25 years of experience in bringing colour and joy to life through my art. I knew from a very young age—probably around four or five—that I wanted to be an artist. I always knew Art would somehow define me and be a huge part of my life and career; hence it’s a huge part of who I am and what I am driven to do.  Most of my earliest memories were of being creative in some way or another – drawing, collaging, painting – and very early on I began to include pattern elements in my illustrations and over time that love of pattern became a signature element in my work.

In the ‘90s I studied Fine Art & Fashion Design which only deepened my love for art, fashion and design. Today my work is all about bold patterns, vibrant colour, positive messaging and intricate details—designed to uplift and energise. I truly believe art has the power to bring joy and that’s always at the heart of what I create. Over the years I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with incredible Australian and international brands bringing my art to life across fashion, tableware, home décor, baby products, stationery and more.

How did you get started as an artist?

Ever since I can remember, I’ve been creating, painting and drawing and fascinated with art, colour and design. That passion led me to study Fine Art and Fashion Design at Griffith University in Brisbane and I’ve never looked back! My career has been a whirlwind of creative adventures, from painting canvases to designing artworks for brands that tell a story. My mission? To fill the world with joyful, bold, and beautiful creations that make people smile.

Why do you think your prints and Maiocchi are such a perfect match?

This collaboration has been in the works for a little while now and I feel it’s such a great fit! Maiocchi and I share a love for vibrant colours, unique designs and timeless style, making this collaboration feel effortless. We both celebrate individuality, creativity and confidence through colour and design and the collection that the Maiocchi team have created is just so fabulous! My hand-painted florals pair beautifully with Maiocchi’s feminine and playful aesthetic, creating wearable art that’s full of colour, personality, and joy.

What was the inspiration behind this Australian floral print?

I am a true flower lover at heart and Australian natives are an endless source of inspirationand  a favourite of mine to paint. Their bold shapes, rich textures and vibrant colours make them a joy to paint. This design is a celebration of our wildflowers capturing their unique beauty in a fresh and dynamic way and the navy background makes them pop off the garments! . I wanted to create something that feels bold, fresh, and bursting with personality so each bloom was hand-painted with care bringing a little piece of Australia’s landscape to life in a way that feels both modern and timeless.

How do you juggle being a mum of 3 and running a successful creative business?

Some days, it’s pure organised chaos! I grab time when I can, although being a self confessed night owl, my creative brain works best and most efficiently at night time. I have learnt to quickly switch off my Mum brain (although it’s never ever completely switched off!) and switch over to my creative mind in an instant. I balance it all with organisation, positivity, exercise (which keeps me sane) and a love of living a creative life.  I find my studio time to be very meditative and restorative  and I often lose track of time, as I’m so immersed in the creative process. It’s a wild ride, but when you love what you do, you just make it work!

Which is your favourite piece from the ‘Wide Blue Yonder’ collection?

The Maiocchi team have made it nearly impossible to choose just one favourite! This collection reflects everything I love about Australia’s native floral beauty and my artistic style. But if I had to pick, I’d say the Holly Dress. It’s vibrant, expressive and full of life and the individual floral trimming adds such a beautiful touch!
